Boredom

I was talking to a friend last night about boredom. It got me thinking...
I don't need a career, or a hobby or more education. I have all the tools to be unbored right at my fingertips. I was looking for some silly but good stuff to put up on my website. Boy did I ever hit the jackpot!!!!
So being the over thinker that I am, this site is perfect for me, it gives me inspiration as to what I should be doing with my life! It answers life's toughest questions!! Find out now!!!
With that said, I am going to embark on an endeavor, armed with my digital camera and my creative mind, and I will post all about it one day!
I found a bunch of other sites too, so check out the linkies page on my site, and well just my whole site because I think its pretty awesome for a first timer!

Tornados

I had a strange dream about tornados. Very "twister"-esque. So I started thinking about the movie, and as much as I like the movie, the ending bugs me. OK so there is this Colossal f5 tornado that picked up a semi, a barn full of cutting implements, a bunch of trees, cows, and who knows what else. Do you honestly think a lousy leather strap is going to stop you from being sucked up?
Lets just suppose that the strap does hold, wouldn't the force of the winds basically rip their bodies in half if the strap doesn't give? Lets keep supposing here, If the strap idea were possible, what about all the debris, I mean really! What about all those cutting implements and the wood slats from the fence, wouldn't they be floating around? I would think there would be so many particles of stuff in their that it would be like a sandblaster and basically peel their skin from their bones, or something bigger would come by and knock them upside the head or something.
Lets suppose also that they made it through on the straps keeping most of their flesh intact. Wouldn't you think there would be other things wrong with them? Like hearing for example, the change in pressure from the funnel cloud would probably Burst the ear drums, which would be not only painful, but very detrimental to your hearing. Who knows what it would do to your lungs?
So with that said, I think the ending should go like this: They strap themselves to the pipes in the shed, the shed gets sucked up and they are feeling the pressure, then suddenly one of their sensors from their "Dorothy" project whacks them upside the head, they lose consciousness the strap breaks and they get sucked into the tornado, never to be found again. I mean you could do a blood and gore sequences where you watch as the flesh gets peeled off them and the strap slowly cuts them in half before giving way, watching as they scream and flail in pain against the winds before it finally takes them, but I don't think that's necessary.
Of course, movies aren't made to be totally realistic, just enough to get us not to think that they aren't unreal. Plus nobody likes movies where everybody dies in the end, and you just had to see Jo and whets his face cheater guy "the extreme", I think Billy was his name, who was engaged before he was divorced, kiss and make up. Maybe the "Dorothy" sensor should have just hit him, darn it Hollywood--made him too lovable!

AWESOME in the original sense of the word

I was just reading an article about Magnetars. Here's some interesting stuff I found...
'"This is a once-in-a-lifetime event," said Rob Fender of Southampton University in the UK. "We have observed an object only 20 kilometers across [12 miles], on the other side of our galaxy, releasing more energy in a tenth of a second than the Sun emits in 100,000 years."'

"Millions of neutron stars fill the Milky Way galaxy. A dozen or so are ultra-magnetic neutron stars -- magnetars. The magnetic field around one is about 1,000 trillion gauss, strong enough to strip information from a credit card at a distance halfway to the Moon, scientists say."

To understand

You gave me a gift
and in return you took my soul
now deep inside like a cave
a rock, stone hole

I remember the time
that's how it feels
I told you to stop
I wanted it but not if it wasn't real

I cried as I watched
the time you went away
falling, drifting, running
there was so much that I didn't say

I pulled out my heart
without even blinking
I guess we hope for what we really want
what was I thinking

Cooking

So I've been cooking for a long time. It takes a lot of effort and concentration. Its a process to get everything to turn out the way its supposed to.
Take for example the ingredients. Taste varies tremendously from person to person, there are many recipes out there. There are lots of recipes that are nice that have a nice combination of ingredients but sometimes its about proportion of ingredients. A little more of this a little less of that. Things need to be tweaked sometimes. So you finally figured out the correct proportion of ingredients you need. That's a huge first step.
The next task is figuring out how you want to cook the dish. There are many methods for doing this. You want to be careful with open flame, it might make the food taste real good, but you get to close and you might get burned. You also want to be careful in letting it sit in the pan too long, it may go bad before you have a chance to use it. Sometimes certain foods need some extra prep work before they can be heated up, some extra marinating to bring out particular qualities, like tenderness, and spiciness. Sometimes they needed to be slowly roasted in the oven to bring out the subtle qualities, you don't want to over-cook or under-cook. It's important to pay attention and make sure its ready before attempting to eat it. Otherwise it could leave you with a bad feeling in your stomach or a bad taste in your mouth.
When bringing all of the cooking elements together it is also important to watch out for people that like to come by and "help" they may mean well, but sometimes turning up the heat or adding a little extra something just makes the food go bad. You also have the problem of people coming into your kitchen and taking your perfectly prepared food for themselves. Often that is what happens. Sometimes its for the best because that food was not what you really needed anyhow.
Most importantly make sure you are using a recipe for what you really want. That has been my biggest mistake. I think I want something or that if I use a recipe if I cook it just right it will be different, but everytime it turns out the same.
With that said cook responsibly, don't cook up more than you need, its just wasteful. And make sure you have the time and patience to see the dish all the way through, or else you will have a stove full of pots half cooked and no room for what you really want.

Wasting my time..AGAIN

So lately I have been watching TV. I informally stopped watching it a while back. Mainly because I hate the way it suckers you in, and plays with your emotions and makes you feel good or bad. It seems I get in this rut where television produces stronger feelings in me than everyday life. I don't like to be that way.
Another reason I stopped watching is because I find myself so distracted all the time, If something is not entertaining me enough I flip the channel. Where do I get off thinking I should be entertained 24-7. That's a North American lie!
I was finding more and more there was nothing of any value on, nothing that makes me think. Not much that produces any kind of brain activity outside of sleeping.
With that said I am not ANTI-TV for everyone. Some people use it as a way to unwind for the day, the distraction of the television allows a momentary rest from the busyness of life. I think it can be used in a way to bring up important issues, and to spend time with your family thinking on the same things. It can be very relaxing.
I watched American Idol the other night, man has that ever become a theatrical event. Not only is there bad singing and dancing but bad acting to boot! People are always encouraging me to go on that show and show them what a great singer I am. Well maybe I am and maybe I'm not, but either way catch me on a bad day and Simon might get attacked, or I would cry uncontrollably. I don't know if I am "idol" material, I don't know if I want to be. The more I see the show, the less I want to watch it.
I decided I don't want to be the entertainment of America, I don't want to sell myself as a product to be entertainment the American people, Prostitutes sell themselves for the sake of entertainment.
Last night I watched the Apprentice, another waste of time. They did this dove commercial, and one teams commercial was basically low budget porn with a gay twist, and the other was just an idea not fully realized. But why do I care, why does anyone care? I don't really know.
Then I watched most of one of those missing persons shows. I shutter to think how realistic the show might be. Goes to show how warped and morbid man is. But I guess if you watch it you can say "oh I'm not as bad as that guy..." And feel good about yourself. I guess it depends on how you see it.
So I think I have had enough TV for a while, Maybe next season I will watch some.

Just to let you know....

The world responded with unprecedented generosity to December's tsunami disaster, which killed at least 200,000 people — one-third of them children. That generosity will be critical as tens of millions of people in South Asia begin the hard work of rebuilding their lives.

But every day, far from the glare of television cameras and international sympathy, children suffer and die. Their parents grieve as much as those in the tsunami zone.

Worldwide, more than 29,000 children under 5 die every day; most of those deaths could have been prevented with clean water, immunizations, basic nutrition and simple health care. In India alone, nearly 6,000 children die each day, mostly of preventable causes. That's twice the number of Indian children that were killed by the tsunami.

There are ripples of suffering that, together, form a tsunami of grief. Each week, more than 40,000 children lose a parent to AIDS. Nearly 6,000 children die every day from water-related diseases. And on any given day, more than 300,000 child soldiers — some as young as eight — are exploited in armed conflicts; many were abducted from families who still wait for their return.

The world's response to the Asia tsunami will help aid agencies care for orphans; feed and immunize children; supply safe, clean water; get children back to school; and protect them from exploitation.

God calls us to do the same for children everywhere even if their suffering is invisible to the glare of television cameras. We are thankful for those who responded so generously to the tsunami, yet more can be done worldwide to save a child's life. For the cost of a new pair of jeans, we can immunize a child against six lethal diseases or protect a family against malaria. For the cost of one meal at a fine restaurant, we can provide drought-resistant seeds that will protect a family from famine.

While we work to prevent additional deaths of tsunami survivors, we were helpless to prevent children from being dragged out to sea. But we are not helpless against the daily tragedies of poverty, AIDS, war, hunger and disease that result in suffering too immeasurable to comprehend.

To Jesus and to World Vision, every child is precious; every death is a needless tragedy.

Sincerely,

Rich Stearns
President

Today is a day of RECKONING

So I was contemplating ground hog's day. Seeing as its tomorrow and superstition tells us that whether or not he sees his shadow will determine the weather.
First of all I'd like to say--all Americans know that bad weather (in this case cold and winter) comes from Canada! That's what they always say on the news. I think it would be more fitting to use a beaver instead of a ground hog. Secondly, which shadow counts? I am sure he will be surrounded by hundreds of photographers all trying to record what he sees. If it were possible to not have a shadow at all I think it would be from all the lights.
If I were the groundhog, I wouldn't bother coming out--too many people too much attention. Id yell out of my little hole--"SHUT UP YOU STUPID PEOPLE, GO AWAY!!! I CAN'T DETERMINE THE WEATHER!!" Of course most people wouldn't be able to understand what I am saying because I would be speaking groundhogese, but Dr. Doolittle--he'd get it.
wouldn't it be ironic if the ground hog was actually blind, maybe he doesn't see anything at all? Who's to know. I imagine year after year of all that flashing and he would be blind. I wonder what the long term consequences are?
what would happen if the beloved groundhog died tonight? Where would they find a replacement. Actually its sad but they probably have a whole farm of replacement groundhogs--just to be sure. They probably get throw to the curb on February 3. Their is probably a society for the prevention of cruelty to ground hogs, pretty soon their will be no ground hogs day. OH THE HUMANITY!!!
